A Snapshot of Home, Independence and Building a Photography Business in Loddon

It was such a lovely surprise to see my story featured in the Loddon Herald, beautifully written by Luz Restrepo.

The article, titled A Snapshot of Home and Independence, explores my journey from Germany to Australia, my move to the Loddon Shire and the development of my photography business.

My life today looks very different from the corporate career I once had. I now live off-grid on a 20-acre property in McIntyre, surrounded by nature and my rescue animals. It is also the base from which I run Angelika Waesch Photography.

During the week, much of my work focuses on business photography, professional headshots, personal branding and corporate events. On weekends, I often travel throughout regional Victoria and Melbourne to photograph weddings, celebrations and other meaningful occasions.

Living and working independently in a rural area offers enormous freedom, but it can sometimes feel isolating. Building genuine connections with other business owners has therefore become an important part of my journey.

Photography has given me a wonderful way to meet people across the region. I hear their stories, learn about their businesses and help them become more visible through honest, professional imagery.

Sometimes one introduction or conversation can lead to a new client, collaboration or opportunity. That is why local networking matters so much—especially in a geographically widespread community such as the Loddon Shire.

Photographing the Loddon Shire Business Community

Over recent weeks, I have been travelling around the shire photographing local business owners for a special project with Luz.

While I create the portraits, Luz speaks with each participant and shares the story behind their business. Together, we are introducing readers to the people, skills and ideas found throughout the Loddon region.

It has been fascinating to visit businesses in different corners of the shire and hear about their successes, challenges and hopes for the future. Every person has a different story, and that is exactly what makes this project so interesting.

I am also delighted to be the official photographer for the Loddon Shire Business Expo in Serpentine on 17 September.

I will be there photographing the event, meeting local business owners and capturing the connections being made throughout the day.
